Open Dance Nationals 2014

This year at Open Dance Nationals I was honored to choreograph a duet with Gabe Wistisen. Many ask when Gabe started dancing.... A month before nationals. Why? Well... I called him and asked if he would do a duet with me and he said, "um.. sure" and I said, "good cause I already paid for it!" haha.
Gabe worked really really hard for a month to learn not only the new choreography, but the basics as well. Gabe has taken tap classes, but other than that he was not informed of the technique needed to pull of a contemporary dance. Gabe has also been in many plays so I knew that he would be a good option as a duet partner because he would perform with his face. We were really nervous to compete at Open Dance Nationals because we were entered in the Advanced Contemporary division for age 17. We were honored to not only take first, receiving high gold and king/queen, but we also were honored to make the National All-American Team! Which only the top fifteen dancers are accepted.
Dancing is my passion and it was such an amazing experience to do something i have never done and choreograph a boy/girl duet. You can watch my duet All of Me - Gabe Wistisen and Taylor Smiddy if you click this link:

If you check out my channel on youtube you can see other dances I have choreographed and performed. I've had an amazing year and I owe it all to my amazing dance teacher Wendy Schild. I would also have to thank my mom and sister for being so supportive. They are amazing!

The Painting; The Reminder of Who I Am.

I love art. I love that art can be expressed in writing, in dancing, in music, and in pictures and paintings. Art is my safe haven. I first learned to turn to dance. Dance was my outlet, my therapy, its where I went for healing. Dance is amazing alone, but the part I loved the most was finding a song that spoke to me, the spoke the things I was feeling AND THEN creating movement to double express what was deep inside. Dance and music is what got me through junior high and high school. Its what helped me cope with my moms divorce. Its what motivated me to keep going. Its what made me believe that regardless of my circumstances and trials, my life is MINE. Its what helped me to stand tall and be different even when I was alone. Dance was my best friend when no one else was. The Idaho Convert

    My Stake President, President Sponenburgh was sharing his conversion story the other night and he said something I really liked, because I know it's true! He said, "Before I actually received the message, God was preparing me to receive the message. I would drive in my car and think about Jesus Christ for no reason and I didn't understand it until it happened." That's what so cool about the spirit of missionary work, EVERYONE can be compared to a seed and every seed is at a different level, but in order to grown into a big tree the seed has to be well prepared!     Growing up I found myself questioning and thinking about the Saviour very often, probably more than an average child would.
